Our Goats

Big Oak Farms is the proud owner of more than 200 meat goats naturally raised on free range, state certified, organic pasture.  We have a variety of does, including Boer, Kiko and Spanish goats.  Our bucks are 100% Boer bucks, and were selected for their lean muscle development.  This combination gives us kids that are high quality Boer crosses.  The crossing of the breeds has produced kids with more “hybrid vigor,” or resilience, and has proven to produce a higher quality and better tasting meat.

Text Box: Our kids are weaned at three months and moved to a finishing field.  This field consists of only weanlings six to nine months of age.  This protects the kids from competing with adult goats for food, which lends to a healthier development and faster growth.  In the center of the finishing field is a very large rock that the kids spend endless time climbing, jumping and sleeping on.

Along with the great taste of goat meat, it is healthier than any other red meat.  Goat meat is high in protein and iron, while being low in fat and cholesterol.  Because of the make-up of goat meat, doctors have recommended it to people with intestinal problems and heart conditions that are supposed to limit their beef consumption.
